By Adnan Hameed TWA ━━━━━ ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) is delighted to announce the unanimous approval of the bilateral trade agreement between Ethiopia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The House of the Peoples Representatives of FDRE endorsed the agreement, originally signed on February 14, 2023, during its 8th regular meeting of the 3rd year. The trade agreement, championed by the Standing Committee on Trade and Tourism, is poised to significantly enhance bilateral trade cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan. H.E. Jemal Beker Abdula, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the FDRE in Pakistan, described the approval as a major breakthrough in the relations between the two nations. "This landmark agreement is a testament to the commitment of Ethiopia and Pakistan to strengthen economic ties," Ambassador Abdula stated. The approved agreement, aimed at fostering robust trade relations, holds the promise of elevating the current bilateral trade volume of over 80 million USD. Ambassador Abdula highlighted the agreement's potential to establish a joint action committee on trade and foster strong institutional linkages. He extended congratulations to the business communities of Ethiopia and Pakistan, emphasizing the positive impact on markets that have been explored through delegation exchanges in the current year. As we approach the new year, Ambassador Abdula anticipates a new chapter in the history of bilateral trade, predicting increased business and trade activity. He recalled the exchange of over 70 businessmen and investors to Ethiopia in March, as well as the visit of over 50 Ethiopian businessmen to Pakistan in May. These interactions, coupled with the commencement of Ethiopian Airlines operations, set the stage for flourishing bilateral relations amid the evolving global dynamics. The Embassy looks forward to the tangible outcomes of this agreement, fostering prosperity for both nations and contributing to the continued growth of Ethiopia-Pakistan relations.
