By Adnan Hameed TWA ______ The Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) convened a symposium titled "Sikhism: Contributions to global peace & prosperity and role in the Far East" on Tuesday, underscoring the invaluable contributions of Sikh diaspora communities towards fostering global peace, harmony, and prosperity. Distinguished experts from the Far East Region congregated to explore and celebrate the multifaceted role of Sikhism in promoting a culture of peace and service worldwide.

Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar, delivered a keynote address emphasizing Pakistan's significance as the birthplace of Sikhism and the government's unwavering commitment to preserving and maintaining Sikh sacred sites within the country. Minister Tarar commended the tireless efforts of Sikh diaspora communities in bolstering various sectors of their respective economies and extending acts of kindness and service to humanity. Participants of the symposium unanimously agreed that the essence of Sikhism, deeply rooted in values of peace, equality, and selfless service, resonates profoundly in the endeavors of Sikh diaspora communities across the globe. The principle of "Seva" (selfless service) emerged as a central theme, exemplifying Sikhism's ethos of compassion and communal welfare. Speakers highlighted instances of Sikh diaspora engagement in initiatives promoting interfaith harmony, educational advancement, and humanitarian aid, with a particular focus on the establishment of Langars (free communal kitchens) and active participation in interfaith conferences and events. Moreover, the symposium underscored the vital role of education in fostering tolerance, inclusivity, and peace-building within societies. Integral to the symposium's discussions was the appreciation expressed for Pakistan's commitment to preserving and maintaining Sikh holy sites, including Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, and Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hassanabdal. Delegates hailed the collaborative efforts between local Sikh communities and the Government of Pakistan in ensuring the sanctity and upkeep of these revered sites. Key participants included eminent figures such as Prof. Dr. Harwindar Singh, Adv. Dato Pretam Singh, Mr. Gurbax Singh Bains, Professor Dr. Manjit Singh, and Adv. Sucha Singh, all of whom shared invaluable insights and experiences from their respective spheres of influence. The symposium served as a poignant reminder of the enduring legacy of Sikhism and the pivotal role of Sikh diaspora communities in shaping a more peaceful, inclusive, and harmonious world.
